Look Like Me - Behind The Music March 2013 - Moore From Life

Look Like Me

song – 8/2004

style- melancholy guitar; modern shoe-gazer song; slow tempo

(verse one)
Remember all the games we used to play?
You said I was your Bettie Page
Curvaceous and sexy, simple too
A bit out of your control
But boy what can I do

(chorus)
I made the mold I raised the bar
I set your standards where they are
Seven is her size, but she can’t fill my shoes
It’s funny all the girls you choose
look like me, look like me

(verse two)
Quick with her tongue and a wit to match
A culinary genius is quite the catch
An intelligent type who can quote the books
And her momma’s good breeding’s where she got her looks

(chorus)
I made the mold I raised the bar
I set your standards where they are
Seven is her size, but she can’t fill my shoes
It’s funny all the girls you choose
look like me, look like me

(verse three)
It’s funny how often your choices change
The face is the same but the name’s rearranged
You’re going nowhere but you’re still getting around
With the next little girlie and her hair of brown

(chorus)
I made the mold I raised the bar
I set your standards where they are
Seven is her size, but she can’t fill my shoes
When you compare, she’ll only loose
look like me, look like me

hello hazel!

hello hazel!

Behind The Music:

March is my birthday month, so I thought I would have a little fun and post this song because of it’s title: Look Like Me.

I had a long term relationship that ended right before I began to write music. Consequently and fortunately, heartbreak provides a lot of material – bittersweet, isn’t it?! Writing is so cathartic and healing…

Less than a month after our split, I saw my ex walking hand in hand with a girl who could have been my twin!  As I sat with a group of friends eating brunch, I saw them through the restaurant window kiss and snuzzle each other right in front of me. They had no idea I was on the other side of the reflective glass. I could not finish my huevos rancheros, and a sabroso plate of food went to waste.

Although my brunch went to waste, I did not waste my opportunity to use this experience. In spite of my heartbreak,  I do have to thank “My Muse” (the title of another BTM to follow soon) for providing me with so much material!
